Llancaiach Fawr Manor
Llancaiach Fawr Manor (Gelligaer Road, Nelson, Caerphilly) – this is a 17th century estate — built in 1530 for Dafydd ap Richard. The Manor was designed to be easily defended during the turbulent reigns of Tudor kings and queens and is one of the finest examples of a semi-fortified manor in Wales today. All the furnishings in the rooms are accurate reproductions of items from that period, and many of the originals can be found in the Museum of Welsh Life at St. Fagans. Admission £6.00 (seniors/students/children), £22.00 (family: 2 adults + 2 children). Free for children under 5 years. Hours: 10am – 5pm (Tuesday – Sunday). Closed on Monday (except for bank holidays).
